Strategy #1
Shopping for the Best Lines
Each sportsbook is different and the lines they offer may vary on an individual game. You could open accounts with several sportsbooks and check the lines to find the best odds for your desired bet.
Strategy #2
Fade the Public / Bet the Dogs
This is a common strategy as the ‘public’ (betting masses) usually tends to favor the favorites and the over. Oddsmakers know which are the most popular teams (most bet on) and adjust their lines accordingly. Remember, the lines are not a prediction of how the game will end, but rather designed so that sportsbooks attract even money on both sides of a wager and then collect the ‘juice.’ Some sites (including ESPN) indicate which side the betting public is backing.
Strategy #3
Stop Chasing Losses
Sports betting involves emotions at times (betting on your favorite team or against your hated rival). When you suffer a series of losses, do not “chase” those losses by placing more bets or higher bet amounts to “win back” those losses. Losing is an inevitable part of sports betting.
